Dar es Salaam. Young Africans SC (Yanga) sealed their fifth consecutive Tanzania Mainland Premier League title after defeating JKT Tanzania 3-0 in their final match of the 2025/26 season on Tuesday at Major General Isamuyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The convincing victory ensured Yanga finished at the top of the NBC Premier League table with 75 points, edging arch-rivals Simba SC, who ended the campaign on 73 points after a 1-0 win over KMC FC.
The latest triumph reinforces Yanga’s dominance of Tanzanian football, extending a remarkable run that has seen the club win five league championships in succession. It also marks the second time in the club’s history that Yanga have achieved the feat. The club first won five consecutive league titles between 1968 and 1972, while Simba later matched the achievement by lifting the championship every season from 1976 to 1980.
Yanga’s latest title adds another chapter to one of African football’s fiercest rivalries, with the championship race once again going down to the final day before the Dar es Salaam giants emerged victorious.
At the other end of the table, the battle for survival also concluded dramatically. Mbeya City and Tanzania Prisons will compete in the relegation playoffs after narrowly avoiding automatic relegation.
Mbeya City finished the season with 30 points, while Tanzania Prisons collected 32 points. The two clubs will first face each other in a playoff, with the winner securing another opportunity to retain their Premier League status. The losing side will then play against a Championship League team for the final place in next season’s top flight.
Meanwhile, Mtibwa Sugar and KMC FC were relegated directly to the Championship League after finishing in the bottom two positions.
Mtibwa Sugar confirmed their relegation following a 2-1 defeat to Namungo FC in their final league fixture, ending the season with 27 points. The drop marks an immediate return to the second tier after earning promotion only last season.
KMC FC also suffered automatic relegation after finishing the campaign with just nine points, bringing a disappointing end to their stay in the top division.
